On Saturday, April 8, Eggshibition took place at VOGELFREI, the creative hub of the Havenloods. We asked 16 artists from Utrecht to unleash their creativity on 16 ostrich eggs. The results were all amazing, from a racecar egg to a 3D embryo egg. Combine that with good company, delicious food, great music, lots of PaasIJ beer, and, oh yes, a bingo!
Egg
The day started with a six-course lunch, led by Rik de Jonge from Bistro Madeleine. Each course included something with egg. After lunch, three large chandeliers with six ostrich eggs each descended magically above the diners’ heads, as if part of a magical scene. This was the signal: Eggshibition was officially open.
Party
We brought many of our favourite party elements from Amsterdam, including our towering ostrich, the IJ-caravan, and a few bottles of IJ-jenever, which found a nice spot at the secret bar (in the back left of the room). The sun was shining, and everyone could find enough PaasIJ beer. At 8:00 p.m., there was bingo, where lucky winners who found an egg somewhere on the grounds got to participate. Later in the evening, the Hillsback Brassband completed the party.
Warm welcome
For us, this was the third edition of Eggshibition, and the first in Utrecht. We are very happy with the warm welcome and response from the city of Utrecht. Connection with art and culture is an important pillar for us. We do everything our own way, and the message to the Utrecht artists was the same. This resulted in the most diverse eggs, making it an incredibly fun event.
