Good news: we’re opening a new tasting room. We’re very proud to announce that it will be based in the Blauwe Theehuis (‘the Blue Thee House’), right in the middle of the Vondelpark, one of Amsterdams oldest and most beautiful parks.
Not much will change at the Blauwe Theehuis as it stands for now. In the coming months it will still be a place for coffee and tea, breakfast and lunch. We will look at our possibilities during that period and then change it in such a way as to best serve us as a tasting room. Changes will happen during winter so we can supply you with our beer on a terrace in the park when the sun’s out again.
Fans of 1930’s, modernist architecture can rest assured: we won’t change the buildings unique design. Even if we would want to, it’s monument status would keep it protected from any intervention on our behalf. It’s almost Bauhaus-like design that honours functionality yet plays with symmetry and transparency. Call it what you want, it’s a pretty unique building.
That special building occupies a special spot. From the early years of the Vondelpark onwards, this has been a place where people gathered for a drink. First at a simple little stand, later at the Indonesian-styled predecessor of the current ‘tea house’, which burned down. Ever since the blue, modernist building emerged in 1937, it has been a spot where visitors gathered for a drink.
As far as we’re concerned, this is what it will remain: a special place among the trees where people gather for a good time. The thing we add: good, local beer.
