Once we get the feeling it has rained more in a week than it has during the entire summer, we bring out the IJbok, our bock beer for autumn. This classic brown ale has been signalling the start of autumn for generations of Amsterdammers.
Since this has been their preferred beer of choice for the rainy season, the recipe has not changed much over the past decades. It still has those subtle flavours of roasted grains, dark fruit and hints of coffee and chocolate. Its smooth red brown colour beautifully matches the last leaves on the trees. Its available in our tasting room, in the best cafes to take shelter and, bottled, at the better liquor stores.
