Following our recent rye IPA, we brewed a somewhat similar, new limited edition: the Black Rye IPA. We used rye and wheat once again. The rye provides a velvety softness and a herbal touch. The roasted malts, which included some wheat, ensure a deep brown colour, associations of cacao and a slight caramelish sweetness.
We used substantial amounts of citrusy hops. Besides boiling them, we used them for a double dryhop; adding fresh hops twice after fermentation. Though that makes this beer rank high in terms of bitterness units, the hops mainly add a refreshing touch to this dark beer. As a result, this smooth IPA (6.6% abv) goes down rather easily.
We brewed about a 1000 litres of the Black Rye IPA. It is exclusively available on tap in our brewpub so make sure to come sample one soon.
