Brouwerij ’t IJ has been brewing quality craft beer since 1985 and has been growing considerably due to an increasing demand in the past few years. Since its unfiltered and unpasteurized quality beers charm a great many beer lovers, ‘t IJ aims to meet this demand, without compromising its local character. In order to support this rapid growth, ‘t IJ opted to collaborate with a strong partner.
As of September 1 2015, Brouwerij ’t IJ and Duvel Moortgat N.V., from Puurs, Belgium, have entered into a partnership. Duvel Moortgat is a strong family enterprise with loads of knowledge and experience and shares in several craft breweries in Belgium and the United States. The Belgian brewery is renowned for the excellent quality of its beer and can offer ‘t IJ valuable assistance in the fields of brewing techniques and distribution as well as contribute to its financial strength.
Bart Obertop and Patrick Hendrikse remain shareholders and will continue to run the brewery as before. The Amsterdam brewing team, led by Roel Wagemans, will also remain unchanged and will continue to brew innovative and exciting beers. The local, small-scale and independent character of ‘t IJ will be retained. The same holds for our collaborations with Amsterdam-based, national and international breweries. ‘t IJ will remain a platform for innovative beer and will keep brewing with breweries from both the Netherlands and abroad as before.
